Reported Rejection of Medicines by Pharmacies

The National Return of Unwanted Medicines project has reported that there are some pharmacies who have not accepted returns of medicines from the public during the declared COVID-19 pandemic.

There are no restrictions on pharmacies being able to receive returned medicines that are unwanted or expired for disposal in the RUM bins – and pharmacies can continue to receive and dispose of these medicines as normal.

The RUM bins have a new one-way entry design that ensures unwanted and expired medicines are securely transported to an EPA-approved incinerator.

If you have any questions about the RUM service, visit our FAQs.
